Benton, Lewis Herbert (1872-1939)
Photograph of the Mount Carmel railroad station in the town of Hamden, Connecticut, taken by Lewis Herbert Benton. [This description was contributed by Richard A. Fleischer: The New Haven & Northampton Railroad, also known as the Canal Line, built the Mount Carmel, Connecticut, station in 1882. It was similar to other Canal Line stations at Farmington, Connecticut, and South Deerfield, Massachusetts. This substantial brick building survives, as of 2017, in an altered condition. At the left, Benton's traveling companion Irving Drake waves for Benton’s camera. In the background are the hills of the Sleeping Giant State Park which resemble a sleeping human form.]
