Photograph of the New Haven, Connecticut, railroad station, taken by Lewis Herbert Benton. [This description contributed by Robert Joseph Belletzkie: Benton was present at a historic moment. The Meadow Street station in New Haven, built in 1875, had closed to the public on June 10, 1917, in anticipation of the building of the present Union Station, which eventually opened on April 5, 1920. Here is one of the few photographs of the long, flat-roofed wooden structure that would serve passengers in the nearly three-year interim. Those are presumably taxis parked in front of the station.]
